Hollywood director James Cameron has joined the board of StabilityAI, four decades after his iconic film The Terminator. He aims to explore how AI technology can improve special effects in filmmaking. Cameron expressed his commitment to discovering emerging technologies that expand storytelling possibilities, stating, “I’ve spent my career seeking out emerging technologies that push the very boundaries of what’s possible.” StabilityAI is known for its creation of Stable Diffusion, a tool that generates images from text prompts, and has recently developed Stable Video Diffusion, which functions similarly for video. Supporters of AI in video production believe it can help artists quickly create complex digital effects. Cameron has already indicated plans to use AI in the special effects for his 2022 film Avatar: The Way of Water, which has become the third-highest grossing film of all time.
