Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify have announced new multi-year agreements for Recorded Music and Music Publishing, focusing on growth, innovation, and enhancing the success of artists and songwriters. The partnership aims to drive greater monetization for artists, improve consumer offerings, and advance streaming innovation.
Lucian Grainge, CEO of UMG, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in advancing artist-centric principles, while Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek emphasized their commitment to driving industry growth through innovation and better payouts for artists.
The agreements will introduce new paid subscription tiers, bundling of music with non-music content, and a richer catalog of audio and visual content. Additionally, the publishing deal establishes a direct license between Spotify and Universal Music Publishing Group, ensuring a stronger relationship for songwriters on the platform. Both companies reaffirm their commitment to protecting artists’ streaming royalties and promoting audience engagement.
