GroupM has promoted Richard Hartell to CEO of EssenceMediacom U.S., where he will oversee operations, client relations, and business development. Hartell, who previously led GroupM’s Media Futures Group for Google, will continue managing the global Google relationship while joining the GroupM North America leadership team. Praised for his strategic expertise and proven leadership, Hartell brings over 25 years of experience and will report to Sharb Farjami, CEO of GroupM North America. Hartell joined EssenceMediacom in 2021 as Global Chief Client Officer for Google and has been instrumental in leading strategy, planning, and technology initiatives. His achievements include securing the first paid activation on the Las Vegas Exosphere and supporting Google’s investment in women’s sports. With previous leadership roles at Publicis Media and experience working with top brands like Samsung and Heineken, Hartell is well-equipped for his new role, where he will remain based in New York.
