The Writers Guild of America (WGA) is urging Hollywood studios to take legal action against tech companies accused of using copyrighted works to train AI systems. The WGA claims that tech firms have illegally harvested screenplays and other creative content, building AI models on “wholesale theft” of intellectual property. This has led to the sale of AI-powered services that generate plagiarized content.

The WGA argues that studios, under their collective bargaining agreement, have a responsibility to protect writers’ copyrights and prevent unauthorized use, including for AI training. The Guild criticizes studios for not fulfilling this duty, particularly as AI threatens to undermine the value of writers’ work.

In response, the WGA is calling for stronger legal protections and accountability, urging studios to pursue tech companies using WGA members’ works without consent or compensation. This growing conflict could have significant implications for copyright law and the future of creative industries.
