The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to OpenAI following an application by the Indian Music Industry (IMI), which seeks to join an ongoing copyright lawsuit filed by ANI. ANI has accused OpenAI of using its content without permission to train ChatGPT. IMI, along with music labels T-Series and Saregama India, asked to be included in the case, as it directly impacts the music industry. Justice Amit Bansal stated that the scope of the suit shouldn’t be expanded but allowed IMI to present legal arguments. The case, concerning the use of music and audio content, is set for a hearing on February 21, 2025. The labels are concerned about OpenAI’s access to music without authorization.
