Former Prasar Bharati CEO, Shashi Shekhar Vempati, has been appointed as a professional director on the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) board. Vempati is also the Co-founder of DeepTech for Bharat Foundation, a Member of the Society of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, and the Chairperson of the Science & Technology Communication Apex Advisory Committee.

Expressing his enthusiasm, BARC Chairman and CEO of IPG Mediabrands India, Shashi Sinha, said, “We are very happy as he has full knowledge and will add value.”

Vempati, known for his strong views on AI, recently highlighted the importance of data privacy and ethical considerations amidst the rise of AI and deepfake technology at an event. “The future of marketing lies in embracing AI and automation while upholding the values of data privacy and ethical practices,” he remarked.

An IIT Bombay alumnus, Vempati previously worked as a Product Strategist and Digital Innovator at Infosys for over 16 years. In 2013, he transitioned to the role of CEO at the news media platform NitiCentral.com.

In 2020, during the alleged TRP scam, Vempati led a four-member team constituted by the Information and Broadcasting Committee to review the guidelines on television rating agencies.
