Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has appointed Gaurav Banerjee as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective on or before August 26, 2024, pending regulatory approvals. Banerjee will succeed NP Singh, who has led SPNI for 25 years and will transition to the role of Non-Executive Chairman.

Gaurav Banerjee, a seasoned entertainment industry professional, expressed his honor at the appointment and his excitement to lead SPNI in exploring new programming frontiers, enhancing viewer experiences, expanding distribution, and boosting revenues.

NP Singh reflected on SPNI’s achievements and expressed confidence in Banerjee’s ability to elevate SPNI’s portfolio. Ravi Ahuja, Chairman of Global Television Studios and President & COO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, praised NP Singh’s leadership and Banerjee’s expertise in content creation and strategic leadership.

Banerjee’s career includes roles as Head of Content for Hindi Entertainment & Disney+ Hotstar and Business Head for Star Bharat, Hindi & English Movies, Kids & Infotainment, and Regional (East). He is known for his innovative leadership and success with top shows like ‘Anupama’ and streaming originals such as ‘Aarya’ and ‘Special Ops’. His media career began as an assistant producer and anchor at Aaj Tak and continued at Star News. He holds a master’s degree in filmmaking and TV production from Jamia Millia Islamia University and an undergraduate degree in history from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.
